As the tallest building in the world, the Eiffel Tower is probably the most recognizable landmark in Europe and the most famous symbol of Paris. It is impossible to visit Paris without visiting the Eiffel Tower. Even if you don't want to visit this world-famous structure, you can see its top from anywhere in Paris. The height of the tower is 300 meters. When its construction was completed in the late 19th century, it was twice as tall as the Washington Monument, at that time the tallest structure in the world. The Eiffel Tower was built for the World's Fair in 1889, held as part of the celebration of the Great French Revolution of 1789. The structure was originally conceived as a temporary structure specifically for the exhibition, but it still stands, despite all the protests of artists of that era, who were afraid that the structure would provoke the construction of other similar structures with a lack of individuality and despite many people who were afraid that such a huge object would not fit into the overall architecture of Paris. Today, there is no such antipathy in the tower among Parisians anymore and no one can imagine Paris without the Eiffel Tower anymore. In fact, it has become a symbol of the City of Light. The man responsible for the appearance of the Eiffel Tower was Gustave Eiffel, known for his revolutionary methods of building bridges used during work on the Garabi viaduct. These methods were the basis for the construction of the Eiffel Tower. He was also known for creating the iron frame for the Statue of Liberty. The realization of this design took more than two years. Each of about 12 thousand iron fragments was created separately to give exactly the shape that was needed. All the fragments were assembled by hand and then connected to each other using about 7 million nails. After opening on March 31, 1889, the Eiffel Tower was supposed to be the tallest structure in the world, until the completion of the Chrysler Building in 1930.
